The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans program honors the contributions of immigrants and children of immigrants to the United States. The program selects 30 New Americans—immigrants and children of immigrants—who are poised to make significant contributions to US society, culture or their academic field. The Fellows can study in any degree-granting program in any field at any university in the United States. Each Fellow receives up to $90,000 in financial support over two years.

Institutional Nomination

The Soros Fellowship does not require institutional nomination. Candidates are encouraged to work with Fellowships Advising on their application. 

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

The rigorous selection process is focused on identifying the most promising New Americans who are poised to make significant contributions to the nation through their work. In addition, the selection team looks for a commitment to the United States’ fundamental principles and ideals. Selection is based on merit – the specific selection criteria emphasize creativity, originality, initiative and sustained accomplishment.
