Change of Program Process for New First-Year and Transfer Students*

A. Student wants to change to a major in a different school/college BEFORE they attend Orientation:

  1. Student completes the online Change of Program (CoP) form in TUportal accessed from the Orientation website
    1. Students receive messaging before submitting the online CoP form (see examples below).
    2. If the student already attended their Orientation session, student is automatically directed to the CoP Canvas page.
  2. Admissions reviews the form
    1. If the student has requested a program with competitive admissions (e.g. Tyler, Boyer, nursing), Admissions will consult with the school/college partner and notify the student accordingly.
    2. If the student is NOT registered for any classes or future Orientation session in Banner, OR is requesting a major within the same college, Admissions changes the student’s major.
    3. If the student IS registered for any classes or future Orientation session in Banner, AND is requesting a major in a new college, Admissions notifies the NSFP office of the request.
  3. NSFP office checks the student record
    1. If the student is registered for a future Orientation session but no summer or fall classes, NSFP drops the Orientation session, prompts Admissions to change the major, and notifies the student to register for a new Orientation session and watch the new school/college’s Temple Preview.
    2. If the student is registered for summer or fall courses, NSFP contacts the school/college designee to make the major change and any necessary schedule adjustments.
      1. Schools/College changes the major
        1. Notes whether student is an athlete or taking summer courses at reduced tuition rate
        2. Makes adjustment to summer and/or fall course schedule if needed
        3. Notifies NSFP when major is changed
        4. NSFP office drops the Orientation session and notifies the student to register for a new Orientation session and watch the new school/college’s Temple Preview.

B. Student wants to change to a major in a different school/college DURING their Orientation session:

  1. Schools/College offers the following choices:
    1. Student can attend a future Orientation session with their intended school/college.
      1. Student logs out of the Orientation session.
      2. Current school/college drops the student’s Orientation session from Banner and refers student to the Orientation CoP online form.
    2. Student can stay in their current major and CoP after Orientation.
      1. Current school/college gives student the School/College Letter on the ADC/AAG Canvas site and registers the student for classes according to the letter.
      2. Current school/college directs the student to the CoP Canvas site.

C. Student wants to change to a major in a different school/college AFTER their Orientation session:

  1. Student follows the prescribed Change of Program process outlined on the CoP Canvas site.

Messaging students receive when submitting CoP form:

If student is scheduled for a future Orientation session and requests CoP into new school:
I understand that my scheduled Orientation session will be canceled, and I will be required to select a new Orientation session within my new School/College after my request has been processed.

If student is scheduled for a future Orientation session and requests CoP into same school:
I understand that I'm currently scheduled for an Orientation session, and I will need to notify my advisor during my session of my change of program (major).

If the student has requested a change into a program with competitive admissions (Tyler, Boyer, Nursing, etc.):
I understand this program (major) requires additional review of my application by the Admissions Committee.

*Updated May 2021 specifically for remote Orientation sessions in Summer 2021.
