Anna Kilmer '25

Psychology major; Cognitive Neuroscience minor

I began my research journey as a sophomore, working with Dr. Johanna Jarcho in the Social Developmental Neuroscience Lab. Recognizing my passion for working with children and my future goal of working with them in a clinical setting, I secured an internship at the Temple Infant & Child Lab.

Faisal Shaikh '25

Data Science w/conc. Bioinformatics and Genomics major

I began my research journey in my sophomore year, studying the effects of tornadoes on forest mortality through the Undergraduate Research Program. Simultaneously, I conducted clinical research in Temple Hospital's cardiology department, which led to a published paper. This past summer, I participated in an NSF-funded REU program at IIT Madras.

Neuroscience major

I’ve been conducting research since my freshman year, gaining experience in both computational and benchwork techniques. Over the summer, I worked in a computational neuroscience lab at Princeton University through the Leadership Alliance Program.

Ecology, Evolution, and Biodiversity major

Currently, I work as a research technician at the Ambler Field Station on the Spotted Lanternfly Project with Dr. Brent Sewall. In Spring 2024, I was awarded a CARAS grant to conduct independent research on Spotted Lanternflies, and I presented my findings at Temple’s Undergraduate Research Symposium and the Mid-Atlantic Meeting of the Ecological Society of America.

Genomic Medicine major

Hi! My name is Katherine Hurm, and I’m a senior majoring in Genomic Medicine. My research interests include evolutionary computational biology and epigenetics. I currently work in Dr. David Liberles' lab, where I’m creating a model to characterize segregating gene duplicates.

Earth and Space Science with Teaching and Biology majors; Chemistry minor

I began conducting research this summer through the Creative Arts, Research, And Scholarship (CARAS) program in Dr. Beadling’s Ocean Climate Connections lab. My project is focused on understanding what controls biogeochemistry in the waters surrounding Antarctica.

Noel Jaison Varghese '25

Biology major

I’m a senior majoring in Biology with a passion for cellular biology and environmental science. My current research focuses on the effects of 2-hydroxyglutarate (2HG) on cellular senescence. With the support of a CARAS Grant, I’m also working on a project assessing the environmental impact of cigarette butts in water.

Razeen Akbar

Biology and German majors; MD/PhD track

I began research my freshman year through the Science Scholars Program in Dr. Wu's lab at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine. My project explored the link between diabetes and PCOS using a DHT-mouse model. Last summer, I joined Dr. Ward's lab studying psilocybin’s effects on pain and behavior in mice.

I began my research journey through the Diversity Scholars Summer Research & Enrichment Program at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, where I joined Dr. John Karanicolas' lab at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Research has been a way for me to explore my interests, confirming my passion for medicine and solidifying my goal of pursuing an MD to become a physician.
