I began conducting research this summer through the Creative Arts, Research, And Scholarship (CARAS) program in Dr. Beadling’s Ocean Climate Connections lab. My project is focused on understanding what controls biogeochemistry in the waters surrounding Antarctica. My work is computer-based, and I use Python to plot figures showing chemical distributions in the region.
Participating in research at Temple has been an invaluable experience. Research has helped to refine what I would like to pursue career-wise, and being able to network at conferences is very beneficial for my future career. Research has also improved my problem-solving skills—tackling unanswered questions has taught me to think critically in ways that classroom experiences alone can’t provide. My project involves concepts and ideas from every single science class that I have taken. Seeing these connections has helped me better understand those concepts and has been very motivating for me to learn as much as I can from my current and future classes!
Outside of research, I play the piccolo in Temple’s Diamond Marching Band and serve as a Peer Leader for CST’s First Year Seminar, my role is to help new students transition into college life and the College of Science and Technology.
